Background
alta is the first mentoring platform for women by women in the aviation and aerospace industry. It is solely focused on female attraction into the industry as well as retention, development and support in an industry that needs to attract and retain talent.
Aim of the Program
alta is a mentoring platform developed to provide mentoring opportunities and a support network to professional women in the aviation and aerospace sector.
The mentoring platform supports alta mentors to offer their skills to women who seek support in specific career or personal areas (such as maternity leave, career breaks or work-life balance) and for female mentees to identify a mentor with the suitable experience to suit their development needs.
The platform provides useful support tools for both mentors and mentees, including the latest academic research, mentoring guidelines and bespoke online training modules on diversity and inclusion in the work place and mentoring.
Our Solution
When alta approached PLD they were looking to move to a mentoring platform that was better suited to their needs. PLD worked with alta to configure their programme around the alta questionnaire as well as tailoring the mentoring platforms matching algorithm.
alta had also commissioned the University of the West of England to produce a series of e-learning materials aimed at supporting female leaders in aviation and aerospace and PLD worked with alta to integrate these into the software's user journey.
Results
The alta mentoring programme launched in January 2019 and has supported hundreds of women in aviation and aerospace over the time in has been in operation with 99% of users stating their relationship on the platform was a good match.
alta's industry wide mentoring scheme recognised for empowering women in aviation won the Economic and Social Research Council Outstanding Business and Enterprise Impact Award for 2022.
